    The pillars are supposed to be a few hundred feet in the ground and some people say that spirits from Lough Mac Nean are chained to them.
    There is a fort in the field adjoining the pillar stones and tradition has it that there were three prisoners held captives there and they escaped and were caught by there captors and killed where the stones now stand and mark their graves.
