- Weather Lore1) When the sun goes down red, it is a sign of good hot weather.
2) When there are a lot of streamers from the sun (or as the old people called them "goats' hair") it is a sign of rain.
3) When the sun is of a watery colour in the evening, it is a sign of rain.
4) When the new moon is lying well on its back, it is a sign of bad weather.
5) A circle round the moon is a sign of rain. If near the Moon, the rain is near hand, if far out from the Moon, the rain is not too near hand.
6) When the stars are glittering in the sky it is a sign of frost.
7) When you see the clouds passing each other it is a sign of rain.
8) A rainbow in the morning is the Shepherd's Warning. A rainbow at night is the Shepherd's Delight.
9) If there are bubbles (little ships) on the street during rain, it is a sign of a flood.
