- There are a lot of wild birds in my district. It is said that the robin picked at the nails in our Savours cross and that is why it has a red breast. Some birds come to Ireland in Summer such as the swallow and the cuckoo and the corncrake. The cuckoo builds no nest, she lays her eggs in another birds nest. The swallow builds her nest in a barn or in a shed. The corncrake makes her nest in a meadow. The snipe makes its nest in a bottom. The curlew builds her nest in a fence, the robin builds her nest in a hedge. When boys rob birds nests the little birds leave them. It is the sign of bad weather when the curlew whistles loud.
