- The houses of long ago were not as large or as roomy as the houses of the present day. There were only two rooms in the houses the kitchen, and a bedroom. Often the cattle were tied at the end of the kitchen. Sometimes a little outlet called a calleac were built out from the side of the house. Usually there was a bed in the calleac and the old people of the house slept in it.(continues on next page)
