village was practically dying. My grand father's father escaped the fever for some time and as he was the only one who was able to go about in the village [all the other people being sick] he used to mind his sick his sick neighbour's. After a while he too fell sick and died. The death toll taken by the fever was so great that every day funerals were seen coming out of the luckless village until there were not enough of people left to carry out the coffins. Ever afterwards the fever was known as the "black plague". This misfortune was all caused by the carelessness of an old tramp. No grass ever grows where the first well was.
