The following morning the boat was found at Sandymount. The three bodies drifted out to sea and about a month later one of the Shortall Bro's bodies was picked up off the Howth Bailey Lighthouse. The Lighthouse keeper said (when giving evidence at inquest) that he saw the sea-gulls eat-ing something in the water. He launched a boat and brought the body to land. The face of the body was unrecognisable. The boy's parents identified the body by the grey flannel trousers which he wore. The other body was found near the same place. Hughes body was never found.
