   Next day Kitty went out to take in turf which she had outside the house. When she went out she was astonished to see bags of meal and flour, and there was a label attached to them which was addressed to her. Every day that her meal and flour were finished she found more bags outside the door.

   She was over-joyed at this and went and told the rich woman. The rich woman did the same and when she went out the next day she found a bag full of snails and worms. She was very angry and said it was the poor woman's fault.

   The people said the beggar was "Our Blessed Lady" and that she sent the bags of meal and flour to the poor woman in return for her kindness, and that she sent the bag of snails and worms to the rich woman for her want of charity.

   Saint Columba was very charitable to the poor and he made a rule that they were to come at a certain hour. One day an old beggarman came for alms but St. Columba said he came too late. Then they talked together.
