    Long ago there lived a man in the middle of a big farm.

    were always grumbling that he was in the way. One of the men came in to see if he had the stock counted and he was playing with a fox around the house. The master asked him what was he and he said he was a Scotch man. The master bought the ram and he told him to put him in a closed field along with the sheep. When he came to look at the sheep in the morning they were all killed. He went into the house to see the herd to kill him. The herd was gone out and there was on one inside but his mother. The master killed the herd's mother. The herd brought her to the fair on the following day. He went into a public house to get a drink. There was a river beside the house and steps going down to it and he put a stick under the corpse to keep it up. He told the publican that his mother was outside. The publican said wait till I call her in. She might be gone down to the river for a drink. Give her a tip on the shoulder said the herd she is a bit deaf. When he gave her a tip on the shoulder she fell into the river. The man got excited and said he would go for the police and get him arrested. The publican begged him not to and that he would give him a hundred pounds and not to speak of it. The master came to the house again and the herd was counting the money on the table. The master asked him where did he get all the money. He told him
