Fairy Forts
There is a fort in Calla called the Fairy Rath. There is a big ditch around it and there was a cow and calf in the same field. A hare used to come out of the fort every day and suck all the cows milk. After a while the cow died and the calf would not drink any milk from the people but the calf grew up very strong.
The people who owned the land tried to shoot the hare but did not succeed. Then they got a two shilling piece and cut it up into small pieces, put it into a gun and shot him. After that several cows and horses died belonging to them because they should not have interfered with the hare.
There is another fort in Calla with a big gap going into it. A man named John Burke went into it. It is roofed with flags and has grass growing on the bottom of it. There is an underground passage leading from it to another fort a mile way. Una Egan,
