for bleaching. After about three days "on bleach" the rushes were prepared for rope-making.
The rope was woven by hand. In some of the ropes there were three plaits, in others only two. In every townland there were a few ropemakers who were specially good at the job, but nearly every household had some member who could make Scoith ropes - usually the man 0of the house. Pat Flyn (now dead, 1938) of the townland of Moneenatieve, Drumkeerin, Co. Leitrim, made the ropes he required from "Scoith" about fifty years ago - so also did nearly all the people of the parish of Innishmagrath
