- Fairy Forts
Very meagre accounts of these were furnished by the pupils and descriptions of the fort in each case are lacking. Amongst these we can enumerate the following :-
1. Michael Scanlon of Clogherclemin Rathanny says: "In the townland of Chutehall on the farm of John Hickey there is a "lios" this is locally called a "fort". It is at the bottom of a field called "Deer Park" where deer were kept by the Chute landlords, some 50 yards from the home of Mrs Keating, People, when passing the road near it, have heard voices and fairy music. There is a fence of earth around it and an entrance at the side. Tom Blennerhassett was ploughing the field for John Hickey and did not interfere with it. It is believed that fairies live within. - Níl tú logáilte isteach, ach tá fáilte romhat tras-scríobh a dhéanamh go hanaithnid.
