Ar an leathanach seo

  1. Apparently, in olden times bread was made from all of the the four common cereals since there is still current in the district the ‘ bread rhyme ‘ which is as follows
    “ Rye bread would hole your stomach
    Barley bread would do you no harm
    Oaten bread would swell your head
    And wheaten bread would strengthen your arm “.
    I have not been able to ascertain if there were any local mills but querns were in common use and the large circular syones which were part of the quern may still be seen in some fields where bulls or other animals are tethered.
