  1. The heather is a sweet tasted plant and long ago the Irish people made wine from it. The Danes when they came to Ireland were the first to make it, but the secret of making this wine is now lost.
The bog-beam which grows in the bogs is a cure for kidney disease.
The cockle-root which grows in meadows is also a cure for this disease.
The giolcach which is very like the furze bush, with a yellow blossom is a cure for rheumatism. If the blossoms of this plant are put into a bottle and boiling water poured on them, and then left for a day to set, and a cup of this water every morning cures the disease.
Ground ivy is also used as a cure for a cough. It is first washed and then boiled and the water being then taken as a cure.
The dandelion is also used as a cure for Jaundice and a liver complaint.
I got this information from James Allis, Lackenacreena, Hollyford, Co. Tipperary.
