- They lived in a big mansion in Mountpleasant, which is now a convent. Sir John McNeill was a famous engineer and it was he who brought the Great Northern Railway out by Faughart instead of on the level ground west of Forkhill. The reason for this was he had a scutch mill in Mountpleasant and he meant to establish a cotton mill there, and he wanted to have the railway near him when he would have the cotton ready for the train. But one night the scutch mills were burned and that put an end to all his plans.
In the house where Mr. Peter McArdle lives there was another member of the McNeill family and he was called Major McNeill. There is a hollow in the Belfast road, and it is called the Major's Hollow after him.
