- Long ago before lamps came into requisition, the old people used wax candles. These wax candles were made from honey. Sometimes they were made from fat which was melted and shaped into long thick rolls. The rolls were softened and a large sharp pointed steel instrument was put into them. They were taken out and wicks were put into them. The wicks were made from twisted threads of cotton which were also dipped in the wax.
