    story. He said that there is a fairy in the trunks of a tree near Gaynors house in the townland of Grange, Ballinalack, Co. Westmeath. The fairy is out about 12 o'clock every night, and begins to cry, and if he hears anyone coming he goes up to the top of the tree, and when the person goes away the fairy goes down into the trunk of the tree and never comes back until the next night. The people say that if you see him not to go near him, because if you do he will not let you sleep for weeks. He will come to the window and begin to cry, and if you get up to hunt him away he will set a trap and try to kill you.

  2. Michael Nally, Fulmorth, Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath, aged about 45, told the following story. There was a man whose name was not known, hunting (around) with his dog around the Castle of Carrick which is situated in the townland of Carrick, Multyfarnham, Co Westmeath. After going round the castle his dog was suddenly taken of the ground and thrown away. The people said that the dog must have seen a Ghost that is in the
