   Oh father dear, although you are gone
   For you we cannot lament
   Whereas you reach the age of 83
   Your life on earth was spent
   The shock of your demise was bad enough
   But our hearts were almost stilled
   When the fatal telegram reaches us
   That a brother fond was killed
   Our father's grave we can visit
   There to kneel and pray
   But we cannot see our brothers grave
   As his bones are laid in foreign clay
   Far from the scenes of his boyhood days
   His body lies mouldering in a distant grave
   Far, far from those he loved dearest
   In his native Ballyhaise
   But welcome be God's holy will
   We did not come to stay
   We all will meet on that bright seat
   Upon the judgement day

   I'm lonesome now while writing
   This blessed and holy day
   For my dear and youngest brother
   Who is underneath the clay
   It was on a February morning
   From across the ocean wide
   A cablegram to our home it came
