- There is not many of the old people who lived in the time of the great famine 1846-47 alive now. It affected this district very much. The district was very thickly populated before the famine. Ruins of the houses are still to be seen that was in it the time of the famine. The people died with the hunger and they were buried where they died. In Loughta where there was six houses there is but two in it now, and many other places. The potatoes decayed in the(leanann ar an chéad leathanach eile)
