    When the bacach arrived the house would be cleaned up and would get the seat of honour in the cosiest corner. At night the neighbors would come and the tramp would tell stories and news to them. When the neighbours would be leaving they would invite him to spend the next night with them. Afterwards he would get a good supper and go to sleep on a straw-mat near the hearth.
    Two families of tinkers were frequently in this parish. They were McDonaghs and Reillys.
