The next work is sticking the potatoes. The farmer makes a kind of satchel out of a canvas bag and puts the slits into it. He makes a hole in the ridge with a spade and throws the slit into it. Somebody follows him up "quenching". That is closing up the holes. He puts the manure out on the ridges then. Digging the dykes is the next work.
The plough is brought up and down the space between the ridge to loosen the soil. This enables the farmer to cover the manure easily.
