- About forty years ago there was a school in Palmhill. It was one storey in height, built with stones and roofed with thatch. The teacher's name was Bridget Henry. Her dwelling house was attached to the school. Every scholar had to bring a bundle of straw each year to thatch the school. It was the custom that every scholar had to bring two sods of turf each morning. Long ago the teachers were teaching school in the farmers' houses. The attendance of pupils at school every day was about thirty and forty.
