    When they were about to kill a landlord they would cast lots and who ever the lot fell upon had to shoot the landlord.
    One night they planned to kill Miss Gardiner. The young man on whom the lot fell came to her window that night to shoot her. When he looked through the window he saw her sitting by the fire side. He could not shoot her because the servant boy and girl were between her and the window. He waited for a while but at last he got a corner shot at her but he only wounded her in the eye. This kept her quiet for the rest of her life.
