During the night Norman and he yeomen rode out on patrol. The old tinker hearing the noise of the horses' feet stood up and began to rattle his old cans and solder irons for all he was worth, calling out at the same time in a loud voice, "Now men, ready, guns to the rear and pikes to the front". Norman and his men on hearing the commotion instantly turned heel and fled.
