- Mick Cavanagh of Ballymacarthur told me the following story. There is a well in Shrove just beside the beach called Port Cille. This well is dedicated to Saint Columcille. When this saint was leaving Ireland he came ashore and blessed this well. So that is how Port Cille got its name. On the rock on which Saint Columcille stood his foot-print can still be seen. Many people pay a visit to this place every year in the month of August and those who do so with Faith and reverence are very often granted their requests.
