- In olden times the people used to make their own whips. When anybody would kill a cow they used to save the hide and cure it themselves. They would then cut it into long strips with a knife.
It would then be cut up into small pieces like this (DRAWING) They then pleated it and made one piece of it. At one end they would tie a small piece of leather for a lash.
At the other end they would tie a stick for a handle. If they could get a hazel stick it was better because it was strong. A Day's Quilting
