- One one occasion when coming to the Post Office he dropped a letter on the road and dirtied it.
On arriving a the office he explained the situation to the Post Mistress Miss Scott (the present Mrs Mundell) and asked her for another envelope which she gave him. He then asked her to address it for him which she did. In a further letter to the person to whom he sent this letter he mentioned the incident. In his reply this person in a P.S. asked McDaid to put the incident in verse and this is what he wrote."It was Miss Scott
I must confess
In answer to your P.S.
For she can handle well the pen
Far exceeding many men.
There was a blot upon my cover
And I asked her for another
And to address it if she would
And so she did
And well she could."- Collector
