- (continued from previous page)(50)in ditches on a dry night. Most of these bring their food with them. The alms they accept are old clothes, food, or a few coppers. Some of these travel on foot and some in caravans. Most of them travel singly, but those who have families have caravans. The family of travellers who most frequently visit my district are a family called "Cashes". They do not come at any special time.
The travelling folk do not tell stories or bring news from distant parts now, as they used to some years ago. The local people do not gather round them to hear stories now.
