  1. It was the custom long ago when people used to be getting married to give a furtune to the mother and father. They had a certain time of the year which was called Shrove which was fron the first of January to the first Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. They had certain days of the week also for marriage
    This is a rhyme about it
    Monday for health
    Tuesday for wealth
    Wednesday the best day of
    all
    Thursday for losses
    Friday for cross
    Saturday no good atall
    There used be a match maker in every village. They would have to go to Ballina three Mondays to settle the match. They would come to the chapel in the evening to be married. Then they would race for a bottle of whisky and the first one to land to the house would get it.
