- (continued from previous page)all the soldiers and guards followed him. They arrested every man of the defenders that was seen with his coat off and got from twelve to eighteen months in the Galway, Sligo, or Killkenny jails. One man named Tom Larkin died in Kilkenny jail - he was only twenty five years of age.
There was no one killed during the struggle at the Fort but the Saunders were evicted next day and they lived for a few years after that in a barn until the got a new farm in Quansbora near Portumna.
The Fahys live in the place of the Fort: It is a big two story house now. It was only a one story thatched house at the time of the evictions. - The first scene was Saunder's fort.
