“Some years ago, there was a certain farmer living near Loughrea lake.”
(continued from previous page)the lake, and eating the corn. Next night he set a strong trap for them. On coming he found the mare had escaped, but the foal was caught. Having captured the foal he brought him to his yard and sent for an old witch who lived near by. She told him to keep him in a stable for one hundred and one days. On the last day the farmer brought him to Knockbarron races. He was winning the race until he saw the lake from a hill. Immediately he gave three big jumps, and brought the jockey with him into the lake. Every year at this particular time it is said that the horse gallops around Knockbarron.John Conor (as above) told this story.Fairy Stories
