    him what he wanted and Jack said he wanted work. The king asked him what work could he do best. Jack said that he could kill a thousand with one stroke.
    "You are the very man I wanted said the king. "The work I have for you is to mind the walls of my palace from three who come every night and break them down".
    When all in the king's palace were asleep, Jac heard the giants coming he got three stones and climbed up the chimney. Then the giants came in with a fat heifer. They roasted the heifer and then they began to eat.
    Jac fired a stone at the old giant. The giant got angry and said that it was his youngest brother that hit him.
    They began to fight and the old giant killed a young one.
    Jack got one hundred pounds from the king for that night.
    The giants came again on the following night. Jack went up the
