  1. About twenty years ago there came alot of herrings in to Ballisodare bay. At night all the people used to go out after them. One night while John Mc Gowan and Mickey Horan and some others were out fishing below Ballisodare bay a mermaid appeared to them.
    She walked towards the prow of the boat and John Mc Gowan tried to catch her but he was stopped by one of the men who swore he'd brain him with the oar if he touched her. Then she disappered and was seen no more.
