    on them. At the bottom of the pern the thread came out ready for use Some people made caps, stockings and jumpers out of it and others had it woven into blankets.
    Dye-making. In previous times people made their own dye. They got the heather in the bog and boiled it. When boiled it had a nice brown colour and they dyed the clothes with it. They also used tea with milk on it for dyeing.
    Rope-making. The ropes they had long ago were made of straw or hay called soogan's. They got a stick about a foot long and twisted a bit of straw on the middle of it Then one twisted the stick and the other let the straw go little by little till the rope was made.
    Burning of lime. In olden times people burned their own lime and built their own kilns where they burnt it. All the kilns were built on high places because they wanted to keep the lime dry when burnt.
