  1. Local Ruins
    Near the Northern Station stands the ruins of Mc Donaghs Castle.
    This castle was built in 1225 nearly half a century before the Anglo Norman invasion.
    It is said to be the first mortar and stone strong hold in Connacht.
    The Mc Donaghs helsuay in the fourteenth century. They built this castle.
    Round the castle grew the village of Collooney, the inhabitants of which supplied the castle with necessaries. The castle is now in a ruinous condition.
