- In olden times the people of this district churned and made their own butter before creameries came into use. The people of old had a good deal of superstition about churning
In this district there is the remains of a house where the O'Rourkes lived. The old people of the district say that the people of that house could not get butter on the churn for three years. It is said that the fairies brought it away.
There is a story told of a girl named Kate Fahey who was churning one day when a woman came in for a drink of milk. The woman did not take the dash and when she went, the girl could not churn and the woman had to come back and take the dash before she could get a lot of butter.(continues on next page)- Collector
