- A long time ago there was an old man living in a house. This house was in the townland of Harristown. When this old man died the house was locked and no one ever entered it. The dampness had got on the walls and the soot was falling on the floor. One night there were men passing along the road. They looked in and they saw two lights shining like two candles inside. There were a few panes of glass left in the windows. The report went out that there was a ghost in the house. No one would go near it as they were all afraid. One old man who had a shop in the townland was afraid. His name was Tom Scully. Tom went to the door and he opened it. He stood and looked in. He said in a loud voice if anyone was there to come out. No sooner had he said it than a big white goat ran out beside him. Part of the windows were broken and the goat got in that way, and the(continues on next page)
