I blame him not the fault is mine I really must confess
I heeded not his tender words of smiles
    and fond caress
To other boys I gave my love both morning noon and night
Which banished him far far away from the hills of Magheracloone

The cruel chain of sorrow binds fast around my breast
And on my bed of thorns I seek my troubled rest
So you must only pity me and think of the sad doom
That has befell the countries pride the maid of Magheracloone
The maid of Magheracloone is not now known. It seems to be well over one hundred years ago since she lived. Some people believe that she was by the name of Carroll and the boy McCabe but this is mere conjecture and I can get no authentic account of it
The song can be got commonly in this district
