    If the parents of the girl were willing to have her marry this man, the the bargaining commenced as to what she should receive as dowery on her marriage day - it might be
    £25 and even up to £100 & much over it, according to the wealth of the man who was looking for her as bride. Oftentimes the girl's mother sent a man over to the would-be husbands farm to turn the sod, and see what the land was like. When the bargain was made, and everybody satisfied the marriage also was arranged.

    This was most unconventional usually followed a dissagreement in the making of the match. Boy & girl ran away & stayed away together in some place for a considerable time before the marriage day was appointed.
    On Marriage Day
    On the wedding-day after the celebration of the marriage in the church there was a "drag home". This meant that crowds of the neighbours went to cheer the wedding couple on their "triumphal journey" home.
