  1. Daniel O Connell held great meetings through the country. The biggest of them all was at Tara. He held one great meeting in Clones also in 1845 in the Church yard.
    The catholics came in from all through the country. O Connell was not there but a member of his called Lawless was there speaking in his place. The meeting lasted for a few hours.
    The protestants had a meeting on the Diamond the same time. They were speaking against O Connell and his men. When the Catholics were going home the protestants began to fight with them. They fired stones at one an other and it is said that a man called McCafrey was killed in the fight.
