  1. When going to bed and old custom was to say some prayers.
    One was: -
    1. "There are four corners on my bed,
    There are four angels over-spread,
    Matthew, Mark, Luke and John,
    God bless the bed that I lie on".
    Another bed-time prayer was.
    2. "O most merciful Jesus - have mercy on me,
    My soul and my body I resign unto Thee,
    These five bleeding wounds that were nailed to the tree,
    O most merciful Jesus - have mercy on me.
    Another prayer at bedtime -
    3. "God the Father, bless me.
    Jesus Christ, defend and keep me,
    The virtue of the Holy Ghost enlighten and sanctify me this night & forever. Amen.
    Another bedtime prayer: -
    4. In the name of the Lord Jesus Christ crucified
