- About a century ago when the doctors were not very good it is thought that some people were buried alive. One morning a maid went up to call her mistress but could not waken her so she thought her dead. She called in a doctor, and he not knowing whether she was dead or not, declared her dead. Now this woman was very rich and in her will she ordered that her money and jewels should be buried with her and they were. Two guards remained at the grave for a few days to guard it. One of them asked his companion to take the jewels from the grave with him, so he agreed. So they opened the grave and pocketed the jewels, but they(continues on next page)
