    On the first day of August,
    I'll never forget,
    Nick Brennan and Jack Balkan,
    In Clashduff I met,
    They were running like red shanks, And tearing their hair,
    O begor says old Balkan,
    We are chased by a mighty big bear'

    Then off to the Barracks,
    Old Balkan did run,
    He called to the seargent,
    To bring out his gun,
    "My life is in danger,
    I solemnly swear,
    For up in Clashduff,
    There is a mighty big bear".
