  2. Hedge-Schools

    There was a hedge school in Ballyconra in the parish of Lisdowney. It was carried on in the open in a field which was owned by a man called Mr. Walsh. The pupils had long sticks as seats and they wrote with stones on slates. No Irish was taught by the masters in that time.
