  1. Finn Mac Cool and another giant had a contest.
    They were jumping off a high mountain in the Mac Gillicuddy's Reeks.
    Finn's opponent had a sister and she travelled all the way across the Laune to Dromin for sand to put under her brother's feet. She had the sand in her apron, but when she reached Meanus she heard that her brother had jumped down on a stone off the mountain and he was killed.
    She was so grieved that she let the sand fall and it formed a hill there called Cnocan-Ard Dearg.
    The hole left where she dug out the sand is called Poll Dearg. It is about the size of the hill in circumference, and the
