  1. About a hundred yards from Skough there is a hollow in a field, owned by Mr N. Dalton, which is called Clash. It is a big field, and the hollow is in the headland. Once while a priest was saying mass in this hollow he was told that the soldies were coming up the road. They had no time to escape so the priest told them to stay where they were. The soldiers passed along without ever seeing them.
