    This woman was then able to have that amount of butter. Mrs Greene seemed loathe to mention that it was by means of the devil the transfer of butter was affected, but, when pressed she admitted freely it was so. Furthermore she added that Father White had stated that if a person put himself or herself in the power of the devil he could obtain this power. (Father White was a curate here not so very long ago).
    It seems that the butter could be lost in two ways
    i) the actual butter disappeared after being made
    ii) the farmer named at the skimming was unable to make any butter or the full amount he should have been able to make.
