    have originally come from the Kilkenny City area. In Spain he had married a Spanish Lady and direct from {on left margin} [Spanish Gold.] there came the money for the building of a magnificent house in Annagh on the banks of the Barrow and, also, the beautifying of trees along avenues, woods etc.
    This money - Gold guineas - according to Ned Fortune arrived in Ross in firkins. According to the Mocklers the gold was shipped direct to Annaghs. Ned says the house cost £30,000 to build.
    Spanish Lady. According to Mrs Mockler, when the house was almost finished the Spanish wife arrived from Spain, he ship having directly come up the river. She seemingly had been expecting to be crowned queen of half of Ireland for all the money she had sent, for her disappointment is supposed to have been so great that she refused to remain at Annaghs and returned
