    consisted of three men armed with Enfield rifles with bayonets fixed. They seem to have been completely disguised from head to foot - being masked and some of their clothes being covered with ticking.
    Wrong Man Shot. The party is supposed to have concealed themselves in a double ditich alongside the road, from which they had a perfectly clear view of anything coming from New Ross. As the side car reached the spot one man jumped out in front of it and pointed his gum. The other two then came along and they all fired at about the same moment. It is the common belief that Thomas Boyd, the father and landlord they intended to shoot. He, however, only received a flesh wound. Evans Boyd was wounded about the knee, Gladwell Boyd, the nephew, fell off the car, escaped into the field and doubled back home for "help".
    Death of Charles Boyd. Charles Boyd, a medical student, was badly wounded and died the following morning.
