    One Sunday he and some of the neighbouring boys went to Cathe. The following men present Patrick Bates, Ballygub, Inistioge, and his brother Robert Bates and Richard Lanigan, brother of the present George Lanigan, Cluen Inistioge. He was the youngest of them and was not able to swim very well. He went out too far and was not able to get back and was drowned. The fishermen of the locality went to look for him with cots and fishing nets. He was found that night in the same place where he was drowned.
