  1. The fairs mostly attended by people in this district are Thomastown, Kilkenny and Callan which are held monthly.
    There is a fair held in Hugginstown twice yearly, the twelfth of May, and the twelfth of November.
    The fairs are held in a field not in the street and a toll is collected, about four pence or sixpence on each animal.
    When a beast is being paid for the seller usually gives a few shillings called "luck penny".
    The buyer usually says "hold out your hand". When sealing the bargain.
